Squirrel eating a pine cone

These Gray Jays flew right into our campsite and curiously inspected
all of our gear.

Karen looking at the South summit on the left and Main Summit to
the right. This picture was taken at an altitude of about
11,000 feet.

Rolling meadows above the tree line around 12,000 feet.

A few snow pockets around 12,500 feet.

A view of Leadville, Colorado, from just below the saddle between
the South and Main summits. (13,500 feet)

Our first view to the West as we reached the 13,900-ft saddle.
The slope on the right corner continues up to the main summit.

...panning left from the previous shot...

...panning left even more is Mt. Elbert: Colorado's highest point.

...last panoramic addition: a view of the South Summit from just
above the saddle. This shot was taken right around 14,000
feet.

An unknown lake near the tree line at least 3000 feet below us.

Upper and lower Halfmoon Lakes.

Karen and Jordan on the summit just before the thunder and lightning
started. The majority of the Sawatch Mountain range is behind
us.

The sudden thunderstorm, brought rain to the valley, but snow where
we were.

Karen racing the storm.

A view looking at the lower slopes of Mt. Elbert through some Aspens.

Mt. Massive. The peak on the left next to the pine in the
foreground is an unnamed 13,000-ft peak. Massive's South peak
is to the right of that, and the larger rounded summit further right
is the Main Summit. The small, pointed Summit to the right
of the Main summit is the North Summnit. All three summits
of Mt. Massive are over 14,000 feet.
